What is the most common thing that drives people to climb Mt. Everest?

I imagine you've met a lot of interesting people during you treks up the mountains. Was there a common theme among the people you met? What is the most common thing that drives people to climb Mt. Everest? Or was it different for everyone?

Eric West replied:
Thanks for the questions. My expereince on Everest has proven that there a as many reasons to climb Everest as there are poeple climbing it. But the one common denominator for almost all climbers is a person goal to push one's physical and mental self futher than ever before. There is always a certain sort of selfishness that goes with climbing an 8,000 meter peak.

Thanks for the question. Although Showing Up stays away from political opinion, I would say this about your question:
Donald Trump was not given a chance in a million to make it all the way to the White House. In fact, he was laughed at for even trying. You may want to read that last sentence one more time.
It doesn't matter how serious others take your dreams; it matters only how serious you take them. You can't do everything, but you can do anything.

Thanks for the question. Climbing on Everest was something I never thought possible. My life changed after the climb in several ways, but the most notable was that anything is possible. You can't do everything, but you can do anything.

Was there ever a time that "showing up" got you in trouble?

It seems that you've experienced wonderful things by showing up and visiting exotic locations around the world. Was there ever a time that "showing up" got you in trouble?

Eric West replied:

Great question. The Showing Up brand was originally named No Mistakes. The No Mistakes mindset was based on the idea that no matter what one encountered in an endeavor, it would lead to the next step in a progession... hence No Mistakes. All of us encounter setbacks, but that is part of the Showing Up process, and strangely, part of the fun.
