In a sense, I started working on the documentary Behind the Woods and Across the Sea about 45 years ago, when I interviewed my grandfather, Owen Phillips, about his life, including his immigration to the United States. I obtained more information about Owen's life from my father, Edmond Phillips, in 1988. Then in 2007, on the 100th anniversary of Owen's arrival in the United States, I visited Ellis Island with my cousin Herschel Woolman. Finally, in 2014 and again in 2016, I visited Belarus to fill in important pieces of the story. I hope you find the trailer intriguing....more
